Surgical adjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer: a comparison of CMF and CAF regimens.
نویسنده
چکیده
Combination chemotherapy with cyclophosphamide, methotrexate and fluorouracil (CMF) was compared with cyclophosphamide, adriamycin and fluorouracil (CAF) as adjuvant to modified radical mastectomy in primary operable breast cancer with positive axillary lymph nodes. After 18 months of study, treatment failure occurred in 10% patients in each group. The new clinical manifestations occurred locally in 75% and at distant site in 25% of relapsed patients. Long term chemotherapy produced an acceptable toxicity, thus allowing the administration of a high percentage of drug dosage. This study suggests that CMF and CAF regimens have comparable efficacy and toxicity in surgical adjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer.

Comparisons between different polychemotherapy regimens for early breast cancer: meta-analyses of long-term outcome among 100 000 women in 123 randomised trials
BACKGROUND Moderate differences in efficacy between adjuvant chemotherapy regimens for breast cancer are plausible, and could affect treatment choices. We sought any such differences. METHODS We undertook individual-patient-data meta-analyses of the randomised trials comparing: any taxane-plus-anthracycline-based regimen versus the same, or more, non-taxane chemotherapy (n=44,000); one anthra...
متن کاملHER2 and choice of adjuvant chemotherapy for invasive breast cancer: National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project Protocol B-15.
BACKGROUND Recent retrospective analyses have suggested that breast cancer patients whose tumors overexpress HER2 derive preferential benefit from treatment with anthracyclines such as doxorubicin. This has led some clinicians to propose that HER2 should be used as a predictive marker in choosing between anthracycline-based regimens and combination chemotherapy with cyclophosphamide, methotrexa...

Adjuvant Chemotherapy in Primary Breast Cancer Adjuvant chemotherapy reduces the relative risk of relapse by about 25% – independent of the nodal status. Anthracycline-containing regimens are considered standard for adjuvant chemotherapy. In single studies, superiority to CMF has only been shown for anthracyclinecontaining polychemotherapies with at least three substances or a sequential anthra...
متن کاملRandomized trial comparing cyclophosphamide, methotrexate, and 5-fluorouracil (CMF) with rotational CMF, epirubicin and vincristine as primary chemotherapy in operable breast carcinoma.
BACKGROUND According to the overview of Early Breast Cancer Trialists' Collaborative Group, anthracycline containing regimens are superior to cyclophosphamide, methotrexate, and 5-fluorouracil (CMF) as adjuvant chemotherapy for breast carcinoma, but no comparative information is available in terms of primary chemotherapy. In the current randomized controlled trial, the authors compared CMF with...
متن کاملThe expanding role of epirubicin in the treatment of breast cancer.
Adjuvant treatment of early breast cancer has experienced major changes in the last 25 years. Since the mid 1970s, when cyclophosphamide, methotrexate and fluorouracil (CMF) resulted in statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvements in disease-free and overall survival, the use of adjuvant chemotherapy has become common practice worldwide. Anthracyclines are considered to be a...
